Pasquale (Pat) Settineri

Founding Partner

Meet Pat, one of our founding partners. We have him registered as a ‘lethal weapon’ because he trained in karate for years and continues to stay fit with boot camps every Saturday morning.

Everyone knows Pat loves The Rolling Stones, and his wife Darlene. They have two children, both working professionally and doing very well.

In 1987, with partner Colin Butler, Pat founded Butler Settineri to put his skills and passion for Tax, Accounting and Business Advice into working closely with his clients to build growth into their businesses.

Now, as our Managing Partner, Pat specialises in Business Advisory of high net worth clients to deliver personalised business service and relationships.

Pat is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, a member of the Certified Practicing Accountants, a Registered Tax Agent and holds a Bachelor of Business.

Joe Gangemi

Partner

Speed and energy are a recurring theme with Butler Settineri and one that Joe continues. Around the office, he is known as ‘catch him if you can’ and at the annual Master Builders’ Tennis Day, his mates call him the ‘Italian Stallion’.

Joe loves ’80’s music and football in all its forms, from his beloved West Coast Eagles to Manchester United in the Premier League.

Joe joined Butler Settineri in 1987 and has been an important part of our exciting growth story. He is the Director of Finance and the Partner responsible for self managed superannuation compliance and makes client contact his number one priority.

Along with his extensive knowledge of the Building and Construction Industry, Joe specialises in taxation and business services, fringe benefits tax and superannuation. Joe also holds a financial services license allowing him to give self-managed superannuation fund advice to Perth businesses and individuals.

Belinda Burgess

Partner

A Perth native, Belinda revels in the lifestyle our beautiful city offers, spending time on the Swan River and in the ocean.

Belinda loves to stretch herself professionally, and personally, with yoga, stand up paddle boarding, and in winter, barracking for the Eagles.

Belinda joined Butler Settineri in 2001 as an intermediate accountant and progressed steadily to Senior Manager and then Partner with our Business Services / Taxation team in 2012.

With her knowledge, experience, and a natural ability to bring out the best in her team, Belinda is able to deliver great service to all sorts of clients and industries including mining, building and manufacturing.

Specialising in taxation & business services, estate planning and financial reporting, Belinda also has a passion for working with the bedrock of the Australian economy, small business. Belinda also has a financial services registration allowing her to give self-managed superannuation fund advice to Perth businesses and individuals.

Lucy Gardner

Partner

While Pat loves Rock ’n’ Roll, Lucy just loves rocks. She took a degree in Geological Sciences and transformed it into a highly successful career as an external audit specialist. How? Well, that’s a long story.

This proud Brit loves sports cars from her mother country and history, especially ancient civilizations.

Lucy moved to Australia in 1994 to work with a big four international firm in Perth where she specialised in Audit and Assurance. She brought her unerring eye for detail to Butler Settineri in 1999 where she is central to the audit and corporate services team.

This is a person who loves the challenge of delivering work that meets (and exceeds) Australian and international best practice. Lucy enjoys guiding her team to give our clients premium outcomes and occasionally she travels to remote and regional Western Australia to meet clients.

Marius van der Merwe

Partner

Marius is a man who is really going somewhere. He’s powered by positive energy and always on the move.

Hailing from South Africa, Marius has a real passion for red meat and green vegetables only have a small place in his life. Married to Melanie, they have two children, one of each, and Marius loves battling his son in PC gaming, reading and persisting with his golf swing.

Marius joined our firm as an external audit specialist in 2010, was appointed as a Director of Butler Settineri in July 2011 and admitted to the Butler Settineri partnership in July 2012.

He continues to hone his specialisation in external audit and investigation with a portfolio including Australian financial service license holders, not-for-profit entities and local governments.

The entire team at Butler Settineri, and many of our clients, all benefit from Marius’ energy levels, positive outlook and ability to confront and solve financial business challenges.

Scott Edwards

Associate

Gifted accountant and 1980s music aficionado (though thankfully he doesn’t wear ruffled shirts to work) Scott joined Butler Settineri in 2016, fresh from a 14 year period as partner at a mid-tier Western Australian financial services firm.

Scott is always on the go - he needs to be - as a happily married man to Tammy and father of three active teenage kids (“and definitely no more!”) he’s got the whole multi-tasking thing down pat. He’s as adept at managing sports days, looking after a budding actress and moderating sibling rivalries, as he is at cracking the most complex of accounting conundrums.  

Although his football glory days may have gone the way of his hair, Scott is still committed to keeping his mind and body healthy by regularly surfing at some of WA’s best breaks. It also helps him escape the house for a few hours.

As a medical practice specialist, qualified CPA and certified financial planner, with a career spanning almost three decades in boutique and mid-tier firms, and a drive to deliver more for our clients, Scott is right at home in our dynamic and multi-skilled team.

Anthony Hawkins

Manager, Business Advisory

Meet Butler Settineri’s most well rounded character. Physically, professionally and personally, Anthony has achieved great balance in his life.

Married with three children, some in the process of leaving the nest, Anthony balances staying fit with body combat workouts with ten pin bowling, watching movies and time at the local pub, where he’s well known for enjoying a glass of good quality Scotch.

Anthony has been our Business Advisory Manager for over 15 years, joining us in 2001. Bringing extensive Accounting and Taxation experience to our team, Anthony specialises in capital gains and fringe benefits tax.

Anthony dedicates his time to sharing his deep knowledge and experience with business owners to help them gain control and achieve growth. He is also a member of our IT Committee helping the firm stay progressive with our use of technology.

Steele Thornton

Manager, Business Advisory

One of our rising stars, Steele joined us straight out of university (UWA) in 2009 and since then has grown with the firm.

Having qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 2012, Steele has recently been promoted to the position of Manager in our Business Advisory team and has embraced the position with the energy and positivity that defines Butler Settineri.

When he is not helping the team deliver custom business advice to our clients, Steele works on IT projects to ensure that our firm is working with the latest and most reliant technology available in our industry.

Outside of work Steele is always developing his skill set, which is currently in renovating to restore a heritage property to it's former glory.

Patricia Jina

Manager, Business Advisory

Having trained with a small accounting firm and qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 2010 Patricia joined a large mid-tier firm as a senior accountant.

In 2013 we welcomed her into the Butler Settineri family where she is now a Manager in the Business Advisory team. Patricia specialises in the preparation of special purpose and general purpose financial statements and helping our clients with quarterly and year end tasks.

As she’ll tell you, Patricia loves her Thermomix and creating and eating healthy food, which helps keep her that way. Her greatest achievement outside the office is a checkerboard cake. Yum!

Patricia prepares tax advice for clients that operate in various industries and has excellent experience working with large family groups and high wealth individuals to optimise their financial positions and future outlook.  Patricia also works hard on marketing projects, to continue the evolution of our brand stories and the ways we reach Perth businesses.

Marcia Johnson

Manager, Audit

Originally from South Africa where she worked as a director for a mid-tier national firm in Cape Town, Marcia made the trip over to our shores in 2013 and hasn’t looked back since.

In June 2017 she joined Butler Settineri and took over responsibility for the management of the auditing team and the extensive audit portfolio, including our local government portfolio.

When she’s not filling her head with numbers, you can catch her spending time with her kids at the beach during the summer or spending the cold winter months hosting family movie nights.

An unapologetic fan of the Beegees - she ‘stays alive’ by socialising with friends and hiking in nature.

Robert Hall

Supervisor, Audit

Robert hails from South Africa where he earned his degrees majoring in accounting and auditing from the University of South Africa and the University of Natal before qualifying as a Chartered Accountant in 2004.

With his wife Nicky, they have a young daughter, and enjoy getting out and about to explore the state as well as enjoying the beaches and ocean.

An outgoing member of our team, Robert loves to have a chat and keeps fit by training for triathlons.

To Butler Settineri, Robert brings over 20 years of experience in audit and assurance ranging from large, listed corporates to privately owned and managed businesses across a range of industries from retail and manufacturing to service and not-for-profit.

Danielle Cavanagh

Supervisor, Audit

Hailing from Scotland, Danielle is an interesting mix of friendly and relaxed and self-confessed neat freak which seems to work very well for her.

A lover of the great outdoors, camping and exploring Western Australia with partner Paul, Danielle is a hard worker and a good listener.

These personal traits translate very well indeed into her career in finance, which Danielle started straight out of school at the tender age of 16, in ‘sunny’ Glasgow.

Training in-house with a medium size practice in Glasgow, Danielle obtained her AAT (member of the Association of Accounting Technicians).

After a few more years of experience in similar practices, Danielle moved all the way to Australia in 2012 where she has been working hard in our Audit team and proving her worth to Perth businesses.

Sandra Colson

Manager, Superannuation

Sandra was once a squash player, and, by her own admission, a very good one too.  These days, she is dedicated to the challenges, frustrations and rewards of the greatest Scottish game, golf. Sandra also loves blues and jazz and is a dedicated member of Rotary.

A qualified Chartered Accountant and licensed AFSL holder, Sandra joined Butler Settineri in 2013 with 20 years and a wealth of experience in finance as a taxation and superannuation specialist.

Now, Sandra is a highly valued member of our team as Superannuation Manager and works with her team and our clients to plan for and secure their futures.

Ian Tubbs

Manager, Wealth Advisory

A fan of ‘power pop’ (think the Foo Fighters), Ian is married to Mileva and the couple have two children.

They love to spend their down time enjoying travel, sports and music. Ian is a hockey player and does his best to move faster, with some gentle encouragement from his team mates of course.

Bringing diverse career experiences to Butler Settineri, Ian has worked with Accounting Firms and Boutique Wealth firms is a variety of senior positions.

With most of his career happening in Perth, Ian has also spent time in Asian and UK markets.

With an overriding hunger for knowing and understanding the details, Ian brings this innate skill to his delivery of wealth management and financial advice to our clients.

Ian lives and breathes our firm’s focus on personal and custom solutions and works closely with our clients to build strategies and structures to meet individual goals.

Carrie Kapelle

HR Coordinator

With an Honours degree in Clothing Manufacture, as well as a Masters in Personnel Management, it’s fair to say that Carrie is a diversely skilled member of the Butler Settineri team.

Originally hailing from Scotland, before leaving for better food and weather, Carrie is also a Certified Practitioner of HR with AHRI and holds chartered Member status with the Chartered Institute of Personnel & Development (CIPD) in the UK.

An avid music lover, Carrie spent her youth going to see acts such as Simple Minds, REM, U2, INXS and the Rolling Stones, to name just a few. She still loves music, and if you ever saw her CD collection you’d instantly realise what an orderly person she is. Luckily for us, she maximises these impeccable organisational skills to their full extent here at Butler Settineri. When she’s not at work, you’ll find her spending time with her family, walking the dog, or bargain hunting for shoes or household wares.

Lauren Blackham

Administration Coordinator

Owner of Ruby, the most boisterous Border collie in Perth, Lauren heads up our administration team.

Having been Pat’s right hand for over a decade, Lauren has had a pivotal role in steering the Butler Settineri ship. With characteristic verve, she has seamlessly overseen our development and expansion, directing office relocations, supervising refurbishments and ensuring ongoing productivity throughout these transitions, all the while meeting the needs of each and every one of our clients.  

It’s with this same calm assurance and unflappable manner that Lauren leads our Administration team, even as deadlines loom large. Lauren is extremely versatile and can juggle an agenda, chair a meeting and even get a printer to ‘behave’.

When she’s not moving mountains at Butler Settineri, Lauren likes to be amongst them, getting off the beaten track, down south and camping with her best buddy and husband Paul. This getting back to nature is necessary to balance out her other passion/addiction - retail therapy.

Catherine Erok

Finance Officer

Catherine has limitless energy, owing, no doubt, to the large protein shake she has every morning at her desk. (Maybe we all should have one!)

Catherine first started with Butler Settineri as a taxation accountant, way back in 2001, in the business advisory section. Since then she has grown with the firm, culminating with her taking on the job of Finance Officer in 2012.

Apart from her exceptional accounting skills, Catherine is also a dab-hand in the kitchen and enjoys making delicious meals for her husband and daughter. She also knows a thing or two about Perth’s best tourist sites as she takes on the role of tour guide when her family comes to visit from overseas.

With decades of experience in financial accounting, Catherine is the perfect person to guide our finances into the future.
